IMPLANT DENTISTRY

What is implant dentistry?

Implant dentistry is a field that is dedicated to restoring missing teeth by using dental implants. A dental implant is a false tooth root that holds an artificial tooth in place. There are two types of dental implants, endosteal and subperiosteal.

Endosteal implants are the preferred type. These implants are placed inside of the jawbone. They are held in place with cylinders, screws or blades. Subperiosteal implants are placed on top of the jawbone. They are held in place by a metal framework post that protrudes through the gums. Subperiosteal implants are used when the patient cannot wear conventional dentures.

What are some of the benefits of implant dentistry?

One of the main benefits that comes along with getting dental implants is improved functionality. Missing teeth can make it difficult for a person to eat and talk. Dental implants can also restore a person’s confidence. Furthermore, dental implants are extremely reliable. They can last for many years if they are cared for properly.

Who is considered a good candidate for dental implants?

People who want to get dental implants should be in good oral health. They should be free of periodontal disease or any other form of gum disease. A dentist will perform a thorough assessment to determine whether dental implants are right for a particular patient.
